Born in Bradford have been commissioned by the West Yorks ICS Perinatal Mental Health Steering Group to provide insight into inequalities in identification and treatment of perinatal mental health.
One component of this work requires that information hosted by various NHS trusts is brought together to reveal the perinatal mental health pathway for women across the whole system. We will first estimate prevalence of poor perinatal mental health (PMH) in each area, measured using a composite indicator created from the linked dataset: diagnostic codes, numeric scores, referrals to specialist services/support from specialist service. We then hope to stratify by characteristics known to contribute to inequality including ethnic group, level of deprivation and spoken English language ability. This work will be combined with outputs from concurrent work-packages to develop recommendations for adaptations needed to achieve equitable and appropriate access PMH services.
